Scholarship Program

Société first began to support the American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program at the beginning of the 1998 academic year. The program's mission is to help academically gifted students from racial and ethnic groups that are under represented in the chemical sciences.
Since 1998, Société funding has provided financial assistance to six students. In an effort to grow its nascent minority scholars program, ACS matched Société's contributions thus making it possible for additional deserving students to receive financial support. Of the six students directly receiving Société funds, three have graduated and three are completing their BS degrees. Of the three who graduated, one has entered medical school and another has been employed as a chemical engineer. A third has become a mechanical engineer.
According to the ACS, 80% of students who begin the minority scholars program continue in a chemical science and earn their BS degree. Fully 95% of all students who are identified as scholarship winners earn undergraduate degrees.
Since inception, the ACS has provided scholarships to 1600 students. To date, 660 have graduated. About half have continued in graduate school and and the balance have entered the workforce.
