WEBINAR: "The History and Importance of Rare Earth Elements"

Speaker: Ronald Brashear, Arnold Thackray Director of the Othmer Library of Chemical History at the Science History Institute
(Moderator: Peter Young, President and Managing Director, Young & Partners)

The elements on the periodic table are the building blocks of our world, and the seventeen rare earth elements are key to many of the advances in technology we hold most dear. Rare earth elements affect global policy and now may even play a role in our nation’s politics. They are a part of the consumer products we use now and those we will use in the future. Understanding the importance of the rare earth elements depends on our knowing the history of our discovery of these materials and how we came to depend on them. Ronald Brashear will discuss some of these issues using books and manuscripts from the collection of the Science History Institute’s Othmer Library of Chemical History. He will give a presentation, followed by a fireside chat with Peter Young, CEO of Young & Partners and head of the Program Committee of Société.
