As factories have resumed activity following Covid-19 pandemic inspired shut-downs, supplies of semiconductor chips integral to the operation of mobile phones, cars, and a host of household and industrial appliances have been in short supply. Car manufacturers including General Motors, Ford, and Toyota are struggling to deal with the shortage and have slowed or idled some production lines.US and global semiconductor fab operators are gearing up to increase production but that will take some time. EMD Electronic Materials Global Head Anand Nambiar will give his perspective on the causes and cures for the shortage. As head of a major global supplier of chemicals and materials to fab operators, he has a unique perspective on what it will take to alleviate the shortages and how governments, such as the US and China, are maneuvering to back their semiconductor champions to secure technology leadership for their industry champions.

About our Speaker
Anand Nambiar is the Global Head of Semiconductor Materials, the largest growing business unit within EMD Electronics, a business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. He assumed this role in April 2018 and is spearheading the business to become a market leader, focused on innovation and customer centricity.
Prior to this role, Anand was the Managing Director & General Manager Healthcare at Merck India where he was instrumental in developing and implementing growth strategies across all business units.
Anand also has a rich electronics background having served as the Managing Director of Optronics Division at AZ Electronic Materials, Hong Kong and Vice President Operations at Cascade Microtech, Inc. & Associate Director-Quality at Nikon Precision, Inc in the US.
Anand received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Boston University and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley. He is passionate about Deep Sea Diving and Rock Music.
