TOPIC: "Private Equity and Chemicals - A Candid View"

Private equity firms have historically played a very active role as investors in the chemical industry beginning in 1998. Their involvement started after the first highly publicized successes of Gordon Cain and D. George Harris showed the world that one can understand the complexities and regulatory aspects of chemicals and make great returns. Private equity investments have evolved over the years from the original simple buyouts to carve outs, roll-ups, debt restructurings, growth and improvement strategies, etc.

But private equity is now facing a very different set of dynamics with regard to chemical industry investing as the business world has changed and the M&A dynamics have shifted away from their strengths and preferences. Mr. Kichler and Mr. Young will provide the audience with a candid view of what is working and what is not working, and how they see the future for the private equity players as both buyers and sellers of chemical businesses.

This panel brings together a very successful and experienced chemical private equity investor with an experienced chemical investment banker with years of experience advising and negotiating with private equity firms. In addition, both are senior members of firms that have extensive chemical industry experience.

Each speaker will give a presentation followed by a discussion and questions from the audience.
